If a software product calculates Body Mass Index does that make it a Medical Device?

The MHRA appear to feel that the calculation of BMI is sufficiently simple for this not to make a product a Medical Device. Where more complex calculations are performed and where the clinician is dependent on the result to influence care then the product usually needs to be a Medical Device.
